Say hello to our August Storefront of the Month...

Dear NICE Mama logo

Dear NICU Mama is a Fargo-based non-profit that aims to create a supportive community for parents of NICU babies. This passion project was sparked when Ashley Ham, a Fargo mom and founder of Dear NICU Mama, had an emergency c-section, and her son spent 87 days in the NICU. After she got support from a veteran NICU mama, she sought to open the door to others in the area who were struggling to find comfort.

Dear NICU Mama Team

We asked Ashley some questions regarding Dear NICU Mama so you guys could learn more about this incredible non-profit that we are so lucky to work with!

What goals do you have for Dear Nicu Mama in the future?

We are currently partnering with 103 hospitals across the country, but we hope to double this number in the next year to reach even more NICU mothers around the world.

What is the biggest way you’ve seen Dear NICU Mama make a difference?

Countless ways! We are in awe of the sheer volume of messages we receive from mothers sharing their stories, telling us that our mission has validated their experience, made them feel less alone, and encouraged them in a time of need. Our organization is based on bringing NICU Mamas out of isolation and into community, and we are so proud of what we’ve accomplished!

If you could tell your past self one thing, what would it be?

You are enough!

What are ways someone can help a struggling NICU mama?

1. Keep reaching out and checking in! Even if NICU families don’t have time or energy to respond, it helps to know that you are thinking of them and they are not alone.

2. Drop off food, mow their lawns, send GrubHub gift cards. Basic life is hard when your baby is in the hospital, so these small actions are huge for NICU families.

3. Share the Dear NICU Mama social media accounts with them! Our podcast, letters, and messages are ready and waiting!

Favorite part of cheese-slinging?

I always underestimate how much cheese makes people happy! I love seeing people's eyes light up when they see cheeses out in the wild. We get to tell a maker's story and make people happy... it's a win-win!

If a kid walked up to you asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?

Love your brand and what you created. Stay true to yourself, because you radiate your passion and your brand. Everyday my cheese people bring me joy!
