Say hello to our November Storefront of the Month...

Down Home!

Our featured storefront for November is a nonprofit we have worked with for years and truly enjoy the good they share with the community. Down Home helps furnish houses for people who have experienced homelessness. We asked Jenessa Filippi, the executive director of Down Home, some questions to learn more about their mission and how they impact the community.

Down Home, how you can help pamphlet

What motivated you to open Down Home?

Down Home turns moving in — into moving home. At Down Home, we are Boots on the Ground. Our hearts help us do the heavy lifting by offering hope with our hands and feet, providing a transformative fresh start, designing a life changing space - a place that fosters dignity. A place to invite family and friends. A place to feel inspired, comforted, and nurtured. A place of belonging and new beginnings. We are truly furnishings, decor, and so much more and we are honored to serve in our community.

Down Home is committed to continued empowerment, involvement, and stability in the community. As we enter our 6th year at a rapid pace, our primary goals and big plans are to enhance our programming, engage our supporters, and invest in people, ultimately helping build up a generation of hope-filled movers and shakers.

What has been the most impactful moment you’ve experienced with Down Home?

Everyone we serve is welcomed to the Down Home family and is equally the most impactful moment. As we humbly become a part of their journey towards stability and dignity, their tears of joy, laughter, and gratitude continue to remind us of the power and importance in the work that we do. Just the same, while many times victory stories are not known, we had a surprise visit at Down Home from Desiree, who our team was privileged to serve in the summer of 2021. Here is what she shared:

"What you don't know is that last winter my vehicle was not running well, so getting to my work was difficult and unpredictable, and I was worried about losing my job. Because your team provided all we needed in our apartment, I was able to save up money to purchase a safe and reliable vehicle. You don't understand how much what you did has changed our lives. You made us feel worthy. I know I could not have purchased all we have in our home or save up to get a different vehicle if it wasn't for all of you. Thank you so much!"

What is the best way someone can support someone experiencing homelessness?

There are many ways to get involved with Down Home's mission.

1. Build awareness and impact by purchasing our Down Home merch from our Shirts From Fargo online shop!

2. Sponsor a move-in and be a part of the powerful process.

3. Shop our Amazon Smile Wishlist or donate gently used in-kind items.

4. Join us on Wednesdays during our Power Team, 9:00. We lift each family we have served up in prayer as well as our community and world.

5. Make a year-end financial donation to help set stage for greater impact in 2023!
